Most gas and electric cookers are designed for quick and easy repair and the manufacturers have purposely used small and easily detachable components for a fast disassembly. This means that for a lot of faults, you will not need a skilled repairer to fix the problem, half of the time you can do it yourself. The most common problem with gas oven repairs relates to the ignition of the gas burners and the ovens. On the other hand, the most frequent repair needed on an electric oven is to do with the heating elements. Firstly, to avoid time and expense on your cooker, it is wise to have it frequently serviced to keep malfunctions at a minimum.
When the fault arises, the first step is to diagnose the problem. You need to find out exactly where the problem is and which component is faulty. Make sure that all of the power supplying the cooker has been turned off. If you have a gas oven, ensure that the gas running to it has been stopped and for an electric oven, switch of the mains at the wall.
Disassembling a gas oven is quite easy and so first, unscrew the panels to detach them and remove the knobs. The panels are often secured by a few mounting screws which are generally hidden by a trim. The trim pulls of revealing the screws and allowing you to begin your gas appliance repair.
A big problem for gas ovens is clogged burners which builds up over time from food spillages and such like, this will prevent ignition of the burners themselves. Firstly, remove the grates as well as the oven top and this should reveal the clogged gas burners. Clean the burners will detergent and a soft cloth and leave them to dry. To repair the gas ports you may want to use a pin, try and avoid tooth picks or other weak items as they may break and cause an even bigger problem.
If you are finding that the food cooked in your oven is only ever part cooked and is cold in parts, it's likely that you have a faulty door gasket. To make sure that this is the fault, turn the oven on and with your hand, feel above the oven door to see if any heat is escaping. There are two types of gasket, those mounted and those on the oven's door (the latter will warrant a professional). To repair the former, simply unscrew the gasket, pull it out and clean it.
These are just a few examples of oven repairs, including both gas appliance repairs as well as electrical appliance repairs.
